BRUSSELS AMERICAN SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Brussels American School Advisory Committee (BASAC) and  Installation Advisory Committee (IAC) is comprised of three faculty representatives, three parent representatives, and one student representative along with any and all community members who want to attend. BASAC makes recommendations and advises the BAS Principal on school matters [policies, procedures, instructional programs and resources], and the USAG Brussels Commander on installation issues [physical school environment, student transportation, security, school meals, and medical services].
We HIGHLY encourage the community to attend our monthly meetings, which are generally held the first Thursday of each month at 1730 at BAS.  If you aren’t able to attend PLEASE feel free to raise your concern in writing by filling out an “Issue Form”.  These forms are located on the BAS website and will need to be completed and provided to the BASAC Chairman prior to the meeting to address your issue. BASAC points of contact are listed in the PTSO Student Directory, by contacting the School Liaison Officer (SLO) at the USAG Brussels, or the BAS Office.

We’re looking forward to an exciting 2009/2010 school year at BAS!

Thanks in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Gene Emmert
Chairman

Brussels American School Advisory Committee

The School Advisory Committee (SAC) and Installation Advisory Committee (IAC) serve as forums in which questions or concerns raised by parents or teachers are discussed. The SAC includes parents and teachers who are elected to represent the community at large. The function of the SAC is to make recommendations and advise the principal on

  1. school policies, student activities, and administrative procedures
  2. instructional programs and educational resources within the school
  3. allocation of resources within the school to achieve educational goals
  4. administrative and logistical support services provided by the installation commander and applicable service commands
  5. policies and standards of the installation command and military services related to the above.

Neither the SAC nor the IAC addresses matters pertaining to personnel policies or practices, compensation of school staff, grievances or school employees, or internal management of DoDDS or their programs. If you have any questions or concerns about the school's curriculum or environment, give one of the SAC representatives a call (a list of current representatives is available in the office) or attend one of the SAC meetings.

The next meeting of BASAC will be Setpember 3, 2009 at 1730 in the BAS Library
